Young Audiences Artists Perform in Honor of “Louvre Atlanta”
Performances in Nalley Piazza to Last through Late November
October 12, 2006 (Atlanta) – Young Audiences artists helped to launch the “Louvre Atlanta” festivities last weekend with a performance in Woodruff’s Nalley Piazza. That performance was the first among many more to come as part of a collaboration between Young Audiences and the High Museum designed to maximize the experience of museum-goers drawn to the new “Louvre Atlanta” exhibit. Performances that include mask theatre, caricature and musical traditions from around the world will wow visitors every weekend from now through November 26, 2006.
This partnership between Young Audiences and the High Museum represents the growing spirit of collaboration among the divisions that compose the Woodruff Arts Center. The presence of dynamic artists in the Piazza invites pedestrians on Peachtree Street to come and explore the wealth of arts and cultural experiences the Center has to offer. They also provide a performing element to all the activities within the High, celebrating this unprecedented partnership with the Musée du Louvre in Paris. Events like the Young Audiences performances in Nalley Piazza are likely to become more common as the Woodruff seeks to solidify its position as a Village for the Arts welcoming all the communities encompassing Atlanta, including families with young children.
Young Audiences artists typically offer arts-in-education programs to children in a school setting. The “Louvre Atlanta” performances offer parents and community members a rare opportunity to enjoy the artistry and instruction of Young Audiences’ master teaching artists at a public venue. One artist or ensemble will perform in the Piazza from 1-4 PM each Saturday and Sunday through the end of November. There will also be a special Friday performance on November 24. The schedule of performances is as follows:

About the High Museum of Art
The High Museum of Art, founded in 1905 as the Atlanta Art Association, is the leading art museum in the southeastern United States. With over 11,000 works of art in its permanent collection, the High Museum of Art has an extensive anthology of 19th- and 20th-century American art, significant holdings of European paintings and decorative art, a growing collection of African American art, and burgeoning collections of modern and contemporary art, photography and African art. The High is also dedicated to supporting and collecting works by Southern artists and is distinguished as the only major museum in North America to have a curatorial department specifically devoted to the field of folk and self-taught art. The High’s Media Arts department produces acclaimed annual film series and festivals of foreign, independent and classic cinema. In November 2005, the High opened three new buildings by architect Renzo Piano that more than doubled the Museum’s size, creating a vibrant “village for the arts” at the Woodruff Arts Center in midtown Atlanta.
