Young Audiences Announces New Chairman of the Board
Thursday, September 10, 2009
ATLANTA, Ga. – Young Audiences, Woodruff Arts Center (YAWAC) is announcing today that Beth Schiavo, an assurance partner at Ernst & Young LLP and an active Atlanta resident for more than 17 years, has been elected chairman of the organization’s 2009-2010 Board of Directors.
Schiavo joined the Young Audiences Board of Directors in 2005 and served as its treasurer through May 2009. As chairman, Schiavo plans to focus the board’s efforts on working collaboratively with Young Audiences staff to expand the organization’s programming options and increase its visibility throughout Georgia. She will also sit on the Woodruff Arts Center Board of Trustees.
"As the state’s leading provider of arts-in-education programming, Young Audiences, Woodruff Arts Center has already become a household name for some and is positioned to become an even more essential resource in the coming years for making sure vital arts experiences are made available to children throughout the state. It’s critical that our educators, parents and community leaders – both individually and collectively – advocate for keeping arts in schools despite decreasing budgets, and Young Audiences is an important part of that equation,” said Schiavo.
Having also served on the Board of Directors for the Fulton Education Foundation, the Artemis Board at Fernbank and Techbridge, Schiavo brings to her elected position – which officially began on June 1 – numerous years of leadership, innovation and strategic counsel.
“Young Audiences is thrilled to have Beth Schiavo as the new chairman of the Board of Directors. Her leadership, ambition and true passion for arts education in Georgia makes her a great fit for this position and we look forward to seeing the great things accomplished through her guidance over the next year,” said Tony Kimbrell, executive director of Young Audiences.
