Students learn fundamental principles of art and design (color theory, line, balance and symmetry) as they work together to create a large canvas based on the unique characteristics of their school community. Karin shows students how to enrich their composition with a fascinating variety of tools, materials and techniques including acrylic transfers additives (bleach, plastic wrap, glitter, salt, sugar, coffee); sgraffito; impasto and copies of digitally altered photographs. The finished painting remains at the school as a lasting legacy and tribute to the character of the school and the spirit of collaboration. Try reproducing the mural on t-shirts, posters or greeting cards to raise funds for other school projects or more art experiences!
