Take one character actor. Sprinkle in some tantalizing questions. Add vocal inflections, facial expressions, gestures and imagination. Stir in costumes, props, electrical experiments and a few fireballs. Whip up a handful of historical characters (an American pioneer, the King of Prussia, Poor Richard Saunders) and fold in a dash of 18th century music. Cook onstage with a roomful of student sous chefs for 45 minutes and, voila! A tantalizing recipe for Benjamin Franklin ala 1787—a theatrical and educational character concoction guaranteed to please every palate.
