Andy’s zany sense of humor sets the tone for a joyous exercise in writing and music-making. Using the accessible 12-bar blues form, students create their own songs based on any theme, event or personal experience. A perfect complement to the language arts curriculum, Andy’s residencies can be tailored to any grade level or academic subject. For younger students, the emphasis may be on language arts fundamentals such as phonics, rhyming or sight words; older students may focus on personal expression and writing mechanics. String their sweet, silly and heartfelt songs together for a memorable theatrical event.
Andy Offutt Irwin
Andy's silly putty voice, hilarious heartfelt songs, astounding narratives, and astonishing mouth noises, have made him one of the most adored touring storytellers in the United States.
An award-winning artist and educator, Irwin has appeared at venues such as the Library of Congress, National Storytelling Festival, and Walt Disney World. Four of his CD's have won Storytelling World awards, and two of his recordings have been named Best Storytelling Album from the Just Plain Folks Music Awards.
"A fiendishly clever union of Tom Lehrer's topicality... cut with Bobby McFerrin-style mouth music... good, quirky fun." ~ The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
