American folklore is simply crawling with creepy, spine tingling stories. Mr. Eric has gathered up a slew of spooky tales from the Old West, the Civil War and the California Gold Rush that will leave students gasping, laughing and holding onto the edge of their seats—or jumping out of them. There’s nothing gory or grisly—just age-appropriate classic tales like the Appalachian story “Jack and the Ghost” (for younger children) and “Tilly and the Eight Stairs” (for older students) made vivid with richly descriptive language, mood-setting music and the warily anticipated, but inevitably surprising, climax.
