Storybook Express  |  Cathy Kaemmerlen

Take a journey on the storybook express to hear some very familiar, yet not so familiar folk tales like THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF; JOURNEYCAKE HO (a version of the Gingerbread Man): MARTHA, THE LITTLE RED HEN; and THE FAT CAT in which all the characters and more reappear for one last romp. Lots of audience participation with props and fun for preK-1 audiences.

Georgia Performance Standards:

  • ELAKR6a - The student gains meaning from orally presented text. The student listens to and reads a variety of literary (e.g., short stories, poems) and informational texts and materials to gain knowledge and for pleasure.
  • ELA1R6c - The student uses a variety of strategies to understand an gain meaing from grade-level text. The student asks and answers questions about essential narrative elements (e.g., beginning-middl-end, setting, characters, problems, events resolution) of a read-aloud or independently read text.

Cathy Kaemmerlen

Cathy Kaemmerlen, professional actress, dancer and storyteller, is known for her variety of characters, one-woman shows and her rapport with audiences.

A performer and "creator of shows" since she can remember, she has toured in schools coast to coast since receiving a BA in English and Elementary Education from UNC-Charlotte and an MFA in dance performance/choreography/theatre at the University of Wisconsin.

Cathy is now a published author of General Sherman and the Georgia Belles: Tales of Women Left Behind, and Speaking Stones: Voices from Historic Oakland Cemetery. She also has a new book, Just Buzzing Around with Itty Bitty Betty, She's a Honey of a Bee, published by Pelican Press for spring, 2012. Cathy is listed with Southern Artist Profile, National Women's History Project, and the Georgia and South Carolina Arts Commission Touring Artists Rosters. She excels in making history and folktales come to life.
