Tales of the First Americans  |  Sherry Norfolk

Folktales from the Nez Perce, Pawnee, Inuit, Hopi, and Seminole reveal and preserve important information about the people who told them. In this program, students “join” the listeners in Native gathering places as the stories unfold. A lively, engaging, and thought-provoking introduction to the environments, living conditions, and traditions of five disparate cultures!

Intended Outcome:

  • Students will be able to explain where Inuit, Nez Perce, Hopi, Pawnee, and Seminole peoples settled and how their environment shaped the way they lived.

Georiga Performance Standards:

  • SS4H1b – Describe how Native Americans used their environment to obtain food, clothing, and shelter.
  • SS4G2a – Explain why each of the Native American groups occupied the areas they did, with emphasis on why some developed permanent villages and others did not.
  • ELA4LSV2 – The student listens to and views various forms of text and media in order to gather and share information, persuade others, and express and understand ideas.
