This unique holiday, celebrating and honoring ancestors, blends the rituals of Mexico’s indigenous people (Aztec, Toltec, Omec, and Maya) with the Catholic All Soul’s and All Saint’s Day religious celebrations of their Spanish and Portugese conquerers. Tersi recreates the colorful and moving pageantry of the holiday with stories from both traditions, vivid descriptions of the sights and sounds of local celebrations and authentic ritual objects, including a typical commemorative altar.
