Kuchipudi Telling a Story through Indian Dance  |  Sasikala Penumarthi

This beautiful and unusual combination of dance and drama takes its name from the village where it was popularized during the 14th and 15th centuries. Dressed in the traditional Kuchipudi costume of shimmering patterned silks and jingling ankle bells, Sasikala mesmerizes students with her mastery of the form’s intricate footwork, flowing movements, rhythmic syllables and dramatic facial expressions. Students will get their chance to combine key gestures and movements to help Sasikala tell a story from Indian lore.
