Tersi embellishes stories from Latin America, Spain and Portugal with authentic instruments such as the guiro, kalimba, thumb piano, castañuelas, castanets and maracas. Elementary students will learn about the culture and traditions of our neighbors south of the border through songs, folktales and a visit from Spinach, Tersi’s pet llama. As they acquire new Spanish words and phrases, older students will also learn how historical events and the experiences of individual ethnic groups (such as the Moors and Jews in Spain and Portugal during the Middle Ages) influenced and shaped the stories passed down from generation to generation.
Tersi Bendiburg
Tersi has a deep love for and an understanding of her Cuban heritage.
Living in Georgia since the age of ten, and later becoming a Naturalized American Citizen, she sees her adopted country with fresh eyes.
She gathers her stories both from her native Cuba and through research and travels to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America, giving her an understanding of different cultures.
Tersi believes that when children get lost in the telling of a story, it is truly a moving thing.
