Pearl Harbor Children  |  Cathy Kaemmerlen

Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor is recalled by three women — one American, one Japanese and one Japanese American — in three interwoven memoirs. Their contrasting viewpoints reveal the emotional toll that war exacts from mothers, wives and daughters on both sides of the conflict. Unlike the dates, places and battles emphasized in history books, this program puts an unforgettable human face on the “day that will live in infamy.”

Georgia Performance Standards:

  • SS5H6b - The student will explain the reasons for America's involvement in World War II and describe major events in the war in both Europe and the Pacific including Pearl Harbor.
  • SS6H7b - The student will explain conflict and change in Europe to the 21st centruy and the impact of WWII.
  • SSUSH19 - The student will identify the origins, major developments, and the domestic impact of World War II.
