From the Steppes to the Caucasus, from the Kremlin to the Crimea, Troika Balalaikas brings you music from the heart of the vast Russian continent. This ensemble’s richly embroidered, colorful costumes and unusual instruments radiate the passion and exuberance of Gypsy culture. Balalaikas (a three-stringed triangular instrument), domras (a round-bodied, stringed instrument), the zhaleika (similar to a New Year’s party horn), the accordion and a variety of percussion instruments (bells, clackers, tambourines, spoons) capture the vibrancy and earthiness of this fascinating segment of Russian society.
