You’ve Got To Blog – Expressing Your Point Of View In A Digital Age

What, exactly, is “my” point of view? That’s the big question posed to language arts students by fellow wordsmith, Sharna Fulton, an award winning advertising copywriter. In this media focused, interactive blog designing workshop, Sharna introduces your class to the craft of blogging from the outside in. Who blogs? Why? What are the verbal and visual elements of a blog? How do they define and communicate an individual’s unique perspective? Students are then challenged to dig deep to discover their own point of view and finally, design a blog that helps them express it!

State Standard: ELA5W2 The student demonstrates competence in a variety of genres.  A. Engages the reader by establishing a context, creating a point of view, and otherwise developing reader interest.

Sharna Fulton

Ever since Sharna Fulton could hold a crayon in her hand, she’s loved coming up with ideas and putting them to paper. Today, a seasoned creative marketing professional, that paper is a computer. Sharna started her ad agency writing career for DDB Needham in Washington D.C. There, she wrote everything from TV and radio spots for McDonald’s to bus backs for the local animal shelter. In the 90’s, she moved to Atlanta and has written for several ad agencies, design firms and clients ever since. An Addy Award winner, what Sharna cares about most is helping students tap into their own creativity. Also a cartoonist and afterschool arts teacher, Sharna works from home as a freelance writer, blogger and social media professional for a variety of clients.
